EMRIS is a small batch ceramic studio producing tableware and home goods. founded in 2020 by maker Emily Christopherson, EMRIS produces minimal forms that celebrate the natural characteristics of the clay. Each piece is handmade by Christopherson in her Chicago studio using various wheel throwing and hand building techniques. She believes that using handmade objects provokes a sense of connection and views her work as a sort of love letter–a part of her that will always exist alongside you.

Behind the name:

When I was young my family would take trips to a beach on Lake Michigan. Along the shore was a spring that would send water trickling through the sand, carving paths across the beach before joining the larger body of water. One year, my Dad and I dug a hole for the spring water to rest in—a small “lake”. looking for something to call it, we combined our names and it became Lake Emris.

EMRIS was a natural pick for the studio—a tribute to my parents, who always encouraged me, and the part of me that’s still playing in the mud.
